These days there are more choices available to those who want to get qualified with a recognised TESOL or TEFL Certificate. At one time your only option was to dedicate four weeks to a full time, intensive residential TESOL or TEFL course.
However, it is not always convenient to take four weeks off work, and then pay the higher costs associated with residential courses. This is why distance learning TESOL or TEFL courses have developed to allow a more flexible approach to TESOL or TEFL training.
Some of you may imagine that a distance learning TESOL or TEFL Course is in some way sub-standard when compared with an onsite or residential course; this is certainly not the case. Distance learning can prove to be the most effective way of learning for most people. And with the Certificate in TESOL offered by INTESOL you can take a weeks Teaching Practice Certificate after completing your TESOL Certificate, making it the best choice for you. >>Benefits of Distance Learning You have the chance to gain a recognised professional qualification at a lower cost. You can work at home in your own time without having to give up work, or take time off. You have the option to work whilst studying. You can even start your first teaching job during your course! Working at your own pace gives you adequate time to absorb the course material. When studying a onsite or residential course many students find it hard to absorb all the information, because everything must be crammed into the four-week session. You save money and time by not having to find accommodation or travel to a College every day. If you want some observed teaching practice you can spend a week doing this when you finish your course, at a time that is convenient for you. You can take as long as you like to complete a distance learning TESOL or TEFL Certificate, allowing you to fit the course around your life, rather than your life around the course.
>>Teaching Approach Courses are available on CD-ROM or paper copy, which gives you the option to study by email or correspondence; whichever works best for you.
INTESOL use a carefully structured approach to learning and will help you every step of the way. If you feel you are in difficulties with any aspect of the course you are able to contact your trainer by email, phone, fax or letter. With each returned module you will receive an assessment sheet, which allows your trainers to comment on your progress, give advice and guidance for future modules.
Each module of the course is illustrated by practical methods and strategies for use in the ESOL classroom. There is a balance between theory and practice.
INTESOL's aim is to show you how to become a confident, well-resourced, professional teacher, whatever your background.
>>Teaching Practice
You will complete a
minimum of six hours’ teaching
practice with real foreign language students, which
is observed by the trainer. This will be followed by feedback
by the
tutor and trainee. You will be graded on different aspects
of your teaching performance, and receive an overall grade
for the lesson. This practical side of the course will enable
you to learn from first-hand experience about the particularities
of the TEFL / TESOL classroom. It will also equip you with
the technique and teaching tools needed to become a versatile
TEFL / TESOL practitioner and deal with a range of different
teaching situations and environments when teaching English
abroad.
>> Observation of Experienced
Teachers
Apart from learning from your own
and your peers’ teaching
practice, as part of your TEFL / TESOL training you will
be able to observe experienced teachers deliver lessons
to the very students you will be teaching.
These will normally be your own trainers and you will then
have the privileged
opportunity to learn from a professional in the field of
TEFL / TESOL doing what they do best: teaching English as
a foreign language to a group of non-native English language
speakers.
